Obesity is a very rampant health issue all over the world. It does not choose who it affects. Men and women of all ages are prone to the health hazard: obesity. Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable deaths in the United States alone. But what really are the health hazards of obesity and how can we fight it or avoid it?

HEALTH HAZARDS OF OBESITY

?DIABETES – 75 % of women who are 15 % over their ideal weight or are overweight are more prone to develop type II diabetes. This is because the excess weight or fats in the body contribute to the development of diabetes since it makes the body more resistant to the effects of insulin.

?STROKE – Narrowing of the arteries is one of the many complications that obesity brings to a person. The narrowing of the artery due to the deposition of fats may lead to blood clots which heighten the chance of developing a stroke. It is now proven that obesity is a secondary risk factor for strokes.

?OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA – This is a condition characterized by interruptions in the breathing pattern of a person during sleep. This condition is commonly found in obese people. Other related breathing problems associated with obesity are higher prevalence of asthma, severe bronchitis, hypoventilation syndrome and respiratory insufficiency.

?ARTHRITIS – This is commonly found among obese patients, especially in people with severe clinical or morbid obesity. Studies also show that obesity raises the chances of a person of acquiring osteoarthritis, especially knee arthritis.

Those are just some of the health complications a person might end up with if he is obese. Obesity is a serious issue. What are the ways for a person to slim down?

?EXERCISE – Exercising is still one of the best ways for a person to slim down. Exercising does not only make a person slim down but it also keeps him in good shape. There are many exercise routines that a person can do to slim down. One of the simplest and effective ways is walking. Walking about an hour a day is often enough.

?DIET – Eating the right food in the right amount is another key factor for a person to slim down. Nutrition should be balanced.

?WATER – It is important to know that when a person is exercising, he is also sweating at the same time. That is why you should always drink plenty of water so that you won’t get dehydrated.
