Co-Morbidities and Morbid Obesity Problems
Aug 10th
What are the most dangerous issues related to morbid obesity? How dangerous is the condition and how serious are the medical problems related to the disease? Morbid obesity is a condition that describes an individual who has a BMI of 40 or above or one that is carrying more than 100 pounds of excess weight.
The amount of extra weight carried by a morbidly obese person puts too much stress and pressure on the major organs of the body, which ultimately results in serious morbid obesity problems.
But how dangerous are the problems associated with been too overweight if people can live with the condition for decades without any obvious medical issues? If you can live a semi-normal life for decades been morbidly obese then why worry about its associated problems?
It is possible to live a normal life for long periods of time without any medical problems but it is well documented that morbidly obese people have a markedly short life expectancy. The longer you remain morbidly obese, the more dangerous the condition becomes. If you are morbidly obese you are five to seven times more likely to die from diabetes or heart attack. Co-morbidities (illnesses related to morbid obesity) are plentiful. Been very overweight is so damaging to the human body that there isn’t a major organ that isn’t adversely affected by it. Co-morbidities can be extremely serious or they can be nothing more than a minor medical irritation, but no matter what it is, it can dramatically change a morbidly obese individual’s life.
So what are the worst types of co-morbidities? Which ones can seriously affect a morbidly obese person’s quality of life?
There are quite a few obesity-related conditions that can have a detrimental impact on a morbidly obese individual. But the most dangerous diseases are those that work surreptitiously over years or even decades.
These co-morbidities are diseases like diabetes, hypertension and high blood levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. These diseases are often the root causes of extremely dangerous morbid obesity illnesses like strokes, heart attack and kidney failure. These diseases work by damaging various parts of the cardiovascular system; they can also do so simultaneously.
There are lots of co-morbidities; too many to properly list in this short article. The fact that there are a lot of co-morbidities indicates the seriousness of morbid obesity problems. The medical problems related to morbid obesity can even cause sudden death.
Obesity of any kind should be avoided whenever possible. An individual should always attempt to eat well and stay fit in order to avoid the medical problems associated with been too overweight.
