Gastric Bands For Kids! Whatever Happened to Losing Weight the Natural Way?

I was browsing the internet and came across a consumer report that stated that the FDA is considering approving gastric bands for teens so they can lose weight. If you are not familiar with the gastric band, it is an inflatable silicone band placed around the top portion of the stomach to create a pouch that restricts food intake. The report went on to say that since it was a great success with adults, they are looking to offering it to teens between the ages of 14 to 17.
What happened to losing weight the natural way?
When you think of all of the technology that we are using to lose weight, it becomes a little bit overwhelming knowing that there is a new miracle pill, weight loss patch or stomach machine that will help curb your appetite and help you lose 12 pounds in 2 weeks. What happen to the regular way? Eat smaller portions, exercise, make sure you incorporate vegetables in every meal and eat a lot of fruit. I know it is much more difficult then it seems but it is worth a try.
The Gastric Band is a simple procedure and does not require a lot of surgery but guess what? It is not a full solution to teen conquering their obesity. They still have to eat smaller portions and exercise. They will still have to work on controlling their eating habits and eat foods that help them balance their nutrition. Teens also have to stick to a rigorous routine checkup at the doctor. So, if they have to make a choice of going to the doctor or hanging out with their friends, which one you think will be rescheduled?
So what is the point of it all?
The gastric band sounds like a great way to help end childhood obesity but it is still the natural way that will actually help them lose the weight.
